Winter 2020 Newsletter

                                                            WINTER 2020 NEWSLETTER

We hope you all enjoyed the Holidays and wish each of you the best for the upcoming New Year! If you haven’t already been to our new location, we are looking forward to seeing you soon. We have a collection of exciting classes coming up, and many new fabric lines you must come see.

OPEN HOUSE  is January 5th. You can come and meet the teachers and see the samples for the classes. Of course, we will be having homemade goodies and giving away free fat quarters with each class signup. Can’t wait to see you all!

We are excited about Minick & Simpson’s Derby House BOM is coming to Quilters’ Corner!  Derby House is inspired by the old-world charm of Mackinac Island and is a mix of piecing and applique using beautiful reds, blues and creams.  The 10-month program begins Friday, February 7th and continues on the first Friday of each month thereafter, through November.  There is a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee and the monthly charge for the BOM kit is only $35.00.  If you would like to stay and sew from 1-5 pm, please join Debbie, Paula & Pat for just $10.  You don’t want to miss out on this spectacular quilt, so hurry in to register - space is very limited!!

In January, and every month following, we have the “Downunder Wanabes”. They aspire to create wonderful quilts using Kathy Doughty and other Australian designers as inspiration, mixing groups of fabrics and elements of design. This group meets on the first Thursday of every month, being creative and having lots of fun!

On the first Saturday of every month there is Redwork Club. This year you will have a choice between Bunny Hill Designs, “The Redwork Garden” and Crabapple Hill’s, “Lace Cabins”. A good time to join is in January. Our Villa Rosa Society meets right after Redwork, at noon. The Society makes quilts from the Villa Rosa collection of patterns, which are perfect for beginners and experts alike. Vickie is also doing a new class called The Pre-Cut Construction Zone. It will be on Saturday, February 22, 10am-4pm.

On the second Friday of every month, we have a Friday Night Sew. For those of you still working for a living, you can come after work and sew your hearts out with your favorite friends. If you are retired, you can still come and sew 4pm to 10pm.

On the second Saturday of each month, the famous Thimble Ladies meet for a sew day. You may join this group at any time, meet a few fellow quilters and spend the day creating.

For those of you who have never quilted and want to learn, Patty, Vicki and Pam will be teaching Beginning and Keep Quilting on Monday days and evenings. Even if you already quilt, it is a good refresher course.

On the third Saturday of each month, Dawn has an 1800’s Club. They make reproduction quilts and study antique quilts. On the same day, Diana Tatro will teach her Sue Spargo class. You can work on any one of Sue Spargo’s quilts plus Diana will teach you all the complicated stitches. She is also teaching her Tuffet class on January 26 and February the 9th. You may do either the round tuffet or the square one.

Paula is teaching Beginning English Paper Piecing on February 28th and March 6th. English Paper Piecing is surprisingly fun, and is a great portable technique. For those who already know how to EPP, the third Sunday of every month is her English Paper Piecing Sewcial from 11 to 3.

Ingrid Cattaneo, our specialist in Laura Heine collages, is doing the Featherweight design this time. She does magic with small pieces of fabric! Come see her sample, it looks just like a featherweight.  Class is January 23

Starting February the 4th, Patty and Lindsay’s 2020 Jen Kingwell group will be working on Golden Days. It’s Jen’s latest pattern. They will teach you all the tricks of doing the Kingwell methods.

On February the 13th, Donna will be teaching Ancient Stars. It is an antique reproduction in which you will learn how to do Lemoyne stars the easy way, by machine. She will also teach you how to do mitered borders and binding.

Elaine is teaching a contemporary quilt called Metro Twist it uses the Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful starting January 9th.
